1AA / 170 Component Protection
What are 1AA / 170 codes used for?
Component Protection is a BMW security system that pairs the head unit with the BDC and the specific vehicle. After replacing the head unit or BDC, protection may be activated because the secured data no longer matches.
When Component Protection is active, fault code B7F87A may be stored, the head unit FSC codes may change to an invalid status, and navigation, voice control and other multimedia functions may become unavailable.
OEM codes 1AA and 170 are generated for a specific VIN and are used during the official Component Protection initialization and deactivation procedure. Code 170 is used for certain NBT Evo and EntryNav systems, while 1AA is used for MGU head units.
The required Application Number depends on the installed head unit and vehicle configuration. Before placing an order, you must determine whether your vehicle requires 1AA or 170.
